We’re looking for an experienced, detail-oriented Data Analyst to join the Corporate Management, Assurance and Security Team. This role plays a key part in transforming our data landscape, interpreting complex data sets, and providing actionable insights to influence key business decisions.
You will work widely with teams across the organisation and Defra. The ideal candidate will possess strong data analysis skills and a solid understanding of business analysis principles. You will be proficient with data visualisations tools, such as Power BI, and have experience with data management platforms, such as SQL.
Initially working with our Organisational Resilience Team for business continuity you will analyse Power BI data for potential impacts of a disruption to critical business operations.
You will be comfortable working in an agile way, across clusters and a dispersed team.
Key responsibilities include:
- Ensure data is accurate, complete, and available for analysis, managing data pipelines and providing support for data governance.
- Design, develop, and maintain dynamic interactive dashboards/reports using Power BI. Provide actionable insights to stakeholders through visually engaging data-driven presentations.
- Work closely with teams understanding reporting needs and provide data-driven solutions. Work with IT, HR and others to ensure data integrity and consistency across systems.
- Identify developments within our tools to support a wider audience. Support automation and process improvements reducing manual data handling.
- Develop documentation and guidelines to maintain data accuracy and accessibility.
- Mentor and train colleagues to improve their data analysis skills.

The team
The role sits in our Corporate Management, Assurance and Security (CMAS) team. We are a national team within the Environment Agency’s Strategy, Transformation and Assurance Directorate. CMAS sits at the heart of the business. Our clusters have strategic oversight for organisational resilience, business continuity, and organisational governance. We effectively drive the organisations functions by securing vital corporate services from Defra.
The team, manages, steers and supports activities across our organisation.
Experience/skills Required
- Proficiency in Power BI – experience extracting and transforming data; designing and managing dashboards etc.
- Strong Excel skills (advanced formulas, pivot tables, Power Query).
- Be able to analyse complex data sets to identify trends, patterns and insights.
- Demonstrate a solid understanding of data sourcing, collection, and optimisation.
- Excellent communication and data visualisation skills, and the ability present complex information in a clear and concise manner to a wide audience.
- Highly organised, with excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- The ability to quickly establish and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders.
- A desire to work collaboratively, as part of a team, and a willingness to be flexible and adapt to changing work demands.
