Job Summary

The Digital, Data and Technology (DDaT) Profession consists of people who work in a digital, data or technology specialist role. They design, build and run government digital services. They are responsible for the way we find, access and use data and for the technology infrastructure which support those services.

Within the Defence Medical Services (DMS) DDaT Data roles sit in the Chief Digital Information Office (CDIO) function. CDIO is at the heart of future healthcare delivery providing innovative Digital and Data solutions to enhance our patient experience.

This role will be a critical enabler in driving forward the business in continuing its journey to become fully data enabled. Offering an opportunity to make a significant contribution toward meeting both the objectives of Defence Medical Services and Ministry of Defence.

This is a permanent, full time role, offering 37 hrs per week.

Strategic Command is going through a significant transformation programme which aims to improve the way the Command conducts its business and delivers for Defence and the nation. As a consequence of this, all posts within Strategic Command Headquarters and in time the wider organisation, are/will be subject to review and potential changes as we continuously improve across the period of the transformation programme. These changes may be minor or could be more substantive and will generate new opportunities. Throughout, the Command’s transformation programme is committed to following the MOD’s framework on managing and supporting people through the change process and places an emphasis on early and open consultation and engagement with the Command’s personnel and Trade Unions.

Job Description

As the successful candidate you will be responsible for designing, leading, delivering, and implementing the DMS Data (Exploitation) Strategy.

You will lead and develop new Analytics and Insight products using new data platform – allowing insight between previously siloed data sources in accordance with best practice (Data Management Association (DAMA), Government Statistical Service (GSS), National Health Service (NHS), etc.

Additionally, you will lead a multidisciplinary team ensuring business priorities are met through the flexible deployment of resources.

Duties Include, But Are Not Limited To

  • Leading the continued development of, high quality, analytical products meeting the need of the users as prioritised by the organisation.
  • Providing Subject Matter Expert (SME) direction and guidance for Analysis and Insight within the DMS.
  • Continuing to upskill wider organisation in data value, data literacy, and usage of data products.
  • Creating, developing, and managing relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Inputting and shaping Defence and DMS policies, policies, and best practices that affect data to enable DMS to continue to develop as a leader in data analysis and its capabilities.

Skills

The selection at sift stage will be based on your CV, Technical Skills and personal statement. We have asked for a 1,000 word personal statement against the following:

  • Experience of leading a Data Science / Analytical function
  • Experience managing diverse teams
  • Experience of using / designing Data Analytics
  • Experience of developing strong relationships across multi-disciplinary teams
  • Excellent organisation skills with ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Experience of translating data in clear and compelling ways to a variety of audiences
  • Experience of delivering a range of data products for different customers

Where business needs allow, some roles may be suitable for a combination of office and home-based working. This is a non-contractual arrangement where all office-based employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in office, subject to capacity and any required workplace adjustments. Requirements to attend other locations for official business, or work in another MOD office, will also count towards this level of attendance.
