The Investment Association (IA) represents UK investment managers. Our 240 members collectively manage over £6.9 trillion on behalf of customers in the UK and around the world making this the largest industry of its kind in Europe and the second largest worldwide.  The Research and Statistics (R&S) team sits at the heart of the organisation helping to provide data and insights about the activities of the industry.  These range from statistics on the £1trn retail funds market to research reports on the activities and economic contribution of the industry.

Job purpose

The IA is seeking to recruit a Research Analyst to support the work of the Research and Statistics (R&S) Team. The main duties will include contribution to the IA’s regular research output, for example, the annual Asset Management Survey, and wider research activities to provide insight for other IA divisions. This role is being created at an exciting time for R&S, which will see an increase in breadth and depth of issues covered within the team, looking both at key data about the industry itself and the environment in which it operates.

The Research Analyst is a new role in the team, which currently comprises six people.

Essential skills / qualifications / competencies

  • Strong numerical and analytical problem solving skills, and encompasses a wide range of areas from macro-economic developments to fund industry trends
  • An excellent eye for detail
  • Ability to work with large datasets
  • A strong sense of self-direction
  • Educated to degree level
  • At least two years working in a research role that involved both quantitative and qualitative research
  • An interest in financial markets generally is important
  • Ideally you will already have some knowledge of the asset management industry
