The Data Engineering team is comprised mainly of data engineers working in squads. The squads work with other data colleagues (data analysts and data scientists) alongside colleagues from other professions in multi-disciplinary teams.

Main duties of the job

Some of your responsibilities will include:

  • Developing, constructing, testing and maintaining data and processing workflows to architectural standards
  • Building robust, efficient and reliable data pipelines
  • Directing, organising, and leading projects in the implementation and use of new data and BI software tools and systems
  • Designing, coding, testing and documenting all new or modified applications, and programs using languages such as (python, pyspark, SQL, Java and other industry standard tools)
  • Analysing user requirements and, based on findings, design functional specifications for front-end applications.
  • Modelling a collaborative and influencing style of working, negotiating with others to achieve the best outcomes.

Colleagues with a contractual office base are expected to spend, on average, at least 40% of their time working in-person.

Staff recruited from outside the NHS will usually be appointed at the bottom of the pay band.

Knowledge

Essential

  • Extensive knowledge with integration and transformation within Cloud Data Warehouses (e.g. Azure, AWS, GCP)

Experience

Essential

  • Experience with programming languages such as Python, SQL, PySpark, Java
  • Experience of using data engineering expertise to architect the most appropriate solution design to suit a particular requirement or set of requirements
  • Experience of gathering requirements from key stakeholder groups and using influencing skills to manage expectations

Skills

Essential

  • Ability to select and use the most appropriate language and tools to develop data management and optimisation / data science solutions

Qualifications

Essential

  • Educated to degree level in relevant subject or equivalent level qualification or significant experience of working at a similar level in specialist area.
