We are currently seeking an experienced individual to join our research team as a senior psychometric researcher supporting AlphaPlus projects, leading certain whole projects and parts of larger projects. The postholder will provide high quality psychometric outputs as part of AlphaPlus’s educational research and consultancy services.

AlphaPlus is an education service business specialising in standards, assessment and certification. One of our core values as educationalists is our strong commitment to improving teaching, learning and assessment based on intellectual integrity, sound evidence and innovative approaches to generate educationally beneficial outputs. We do this by helping our clients design, develop, deploy and evaluate qualifications and their underpinning assessments. Our work spans the public and private sectors, schools, colleges, vocational and professional learning. We have a core team of 66 staff primarily based in our Manchester head office, and in addition draw upon a team of approximately 800 associates.

The senior psychometric researcher will be a specialist in the technical area of assessment statistics, with experience of delivering assessment research work in education, ideally in an awarding organisation or other assessment organisation. Working within the quantitative research team, and as a line report to the director of quantitative research, the post-holder will provide high quality psychometric outputs as part of AlphaPlus’s educational research and consultancy services.

Eligible applicants will possess a master's degree or equivalent experience in a related area, and possess strong project management skills. They will be commercially aware, able to create opportunities and participate in activities to generate new business.

They must also have professional experience as a psychometrician/statistician or assessment researcher, ideally in an awarding or other assessment organisation or educational institution, and a proven track record of delivering high level research projects/outputs, preferably assessment research.

The position is permanent, full-time working 37.5 hours per week Monday to Friday and is Manchester office-based. The successful candidate is expected to reside within/relocate to commuting distance from the office. A relocation package is offered if required.

Job share/other flexible working arrangements may be considered for the right candidate(s). Any such preferences should be indicated at the early application stage and can be discussed further at interview. The company offers hybrid working (two days per week minimum in the office, with three days working at home). The exact allocation of office-based days is decided by the appointee's manager, although flexibility remains our policy and approach. A relocation package is available if appropriate.

The role may occasionally involve some national travel, working in company and customer offices, with the possibility of international travel.

Benefits include:

  • discretionary profit related bonus scheme
  • NEST workplace pension scheme – tier 1
  • enhanced sick pay cover
  • enhanced maternity/parental leave
  • 25 days paid leave plus the eight statutory bank holidays
  • commitment to developing the expertise of our employees.

For an informal discussion about the vacancy please email Andrew Boyle, Director of Research, who will arrange a convenient time for a call.

We expect to invite shortlisted candidates to an interview and assessment in Manchester between 3 and 5 December 2024, dates subject to confirmation.

Please note that AlphaPlus is not licensed to offer sponsorship under the UK government’s skilled worker sponsorship scheme.
